For those who know me on FB, you may have already guessed what I am about to write but for those who are not…
Martyn went into hospital last Friday in Kent. He was in until Tuesday and he was very ill with a chest infection and heart problems. He is getting better but because of his hospital admission, he is now going to have a lot of hospital appointments. He is also being referred for breathing classes. We have talked long about this and I’m finding this really hard to write. We have decided that for this winter we need to be staying at mum in laws in Kent. We are NOT giving up the boat, but it may just become a boat that we either just use in the summer or just for holidays.
I’m gutted but we have to do what is right for M’s health. I’m hoping that one day we will be back living on the boat. We will be going back there in the next couple of weeks to winterise the boat and also to bring stuff back with us.
I am missing the nature and the calmness already. We were talking about making a stew, and realised we won’t be able to cook it on the top of the fire. ☹️
It’s not the end, it’s just a blip in the middle of our narrow-boating adventures.
Hi Linda,
I am so sorry to here this and I hope Martin gets better soon. I hope you both are working on getting better and back to the boat when the weather warms up.
I hope to see you both before Christmas, even if it means driving down to mum laws. Both take care.

Hi Jon, great to hear from you. Would be good to see you before Christmas. Martyn is usually better in the warmer months, so we will be boating then. Xx

We think it’s for the best, it’s not a decision we have made lightly but Martyn’s health comes before anything else. Xx

Oh no Linda, that’s such a shame but as you say, you have to put Martyn’s health first. Wishing him a speedy recovery so that you’re up and running in time for next summer. xx

It is a shame, but it has to be done. And not selling the boat means we WILL be back on it one day. Thank you xx

That’s such sad news Linda. I fully appreciate the lure of living in anything other than bricks and mortar! Hopefully, a few months away will give Martyn time to get better for your summer adventures. Much love xx

Thanks you Tracy. I feel like a bit of our dream has deflated. Living on water is amazing, just so stress free. Kent is very overcrowded, and although it’s quiet where mum in law lives, once you get out on the road it’s busy. But there are nice walks here along the seafront, me and my eldest son walked four miles yesterday with the dogs. Martyn rolled in his wheelchair. We will survive, I’m sure.
